Cosmetic Dental Procedure Restoring Teeth Back To A Natural Brilliance
Teeth whitening is a simple and non-invasive cosmetic dentistry
procedure that is used to change the color of natural tooth enamel, and is an ideal way to enhance your smile. Since having whiter teeth has become one of the biggest aesthetic concerns of most patients, we offer a take home whitening option.
At home teeth whitening systems are one of the more popular ways to whiten your teeth dramatically. Since teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings
, dental crowns
, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match your newly beached teeth.
Reasons For Teeth Whitening
• Fluorosis – excessive fluoridation during tooth development
• Normal wear of outer tooth layer
• Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc)
• Yellow, browned stained teeth
What Does Teeth Whitening Involve?
Take home teeth whitening generally requires two visits to our office. During the first appointment, Dr. Peterson
will take impressions (molds) of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic trays.
During your second appointment, we will have you try on the trays to make sure they properly fit. We will make any adjustments if necessary. The trays are worn with special whitening solution either once a day for 60 minutes, or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. Tooth sensitivity is normal, and may occur during the time you are whitening your teeth, but will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.
Dr. Peterson and her team will be sure to provide you with specific care instructions for your teeth and trays. We encourage you to visit us regularly to help maintain a beautiful and healthy smile!
